Our vineyards are nestled in the scenic Niobrara River Valley on a working cattle ranch in the Sandhills near Nenzel, NE. The vineyard began in 2002 with just four varieties of grapes and 200 plants to see if they would grow here. From its award-winning wines to its spectacular views, Nissen Winery is one you are sure to enjoy. Located on a National Scenic Byway on The Outlaw Trail in Northern Cedar County, it is one of Nebraskaís hidden gems. There are great wines to sample, and you can hear stories of the historical and famous outlaws who once lived and roamed the area in the late 1800s. Relax, sip wine, read old newspaper articles that tell stories of outlaws from Doc Middleton to Jesse James, and learn of the lifestyle of the corrupt and famous outlaws who called Nebraska home. The white wines range from a sweet, soft, smooth wine called St. Pepin to a crisp, refreshing, fruit-forward dry named Reserve White. Sweet reds, such as Jesse James, a very popular one that touts Bing cherry overtones, are one of several sweet reds and blushes you want to sample before choosing your favorite. Prairie Creek Vineyards was established in 2003, with the winery and tasting room following in 2007. Since that time, the vineyard has grown to a little under 15 acres, and the tasting room has morphed into a restaurant and world of its own. While the production facility and vineyards are located on our original site in rural Merrick County, Prairie Creek’s tasting room is conveniently located right on Highway 30 in downtown Central City! You won’t miss the giant wine bottle hanging off the side of the building. While you’re joining us to experience the wine list with a rotating number of choices, feel free to stay for an appetizer and supper! We’re open Tuesday through Friday, 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and on Saturday, the tasting room opens at 1:00 pm, so you can have a little extra wine time.
